Description: A crucial ingredient in our understanding of black holes in the stringy regime is T-duality. This is, for instance, what enables us to construct the matrix model for the two-dimensional black hole background of string theory. In this setup, the T-dual model is known as the Fateev-Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov (FZZ) dual model. Recently, interesting analysis of the structure of black hole horizon in the high-energy limit of string theory have been made based on such FZZ model, notably by Giveon, Itzhaki and Kutasov, who have shown that \alpha' effects make the horizon structure at high-energy to be qualitatively different from the one predicted by classical gravity. By analysis of the string \sigma-model on the two-dimensional black hole, or, more precisely, its T-dual FZZ model, one can explicitly compute the anomalous phase-shift experienced by states of high-momentum, making the purely stringy effects manifest. I this talk I will summarize this analysis, I will elaborate on this by studying the contribution of worldsheet instantons in the black hole \sigma-model, and I will present evidence of a generalization of the FZZ duality at the level of the interacting string theory.
