-- Description: Abstract: The field of cosmology is entering an era of very large collaborative surveys. Big improvements are expected to come from measurements of the Comic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization field and the detailed mapping of the large scale structure (LSS) and I will mention several interesting targets. I will highlight an attempt to measure the neutrino mass, which requires an exquisite measurement of the matter power spectrum. An unbiased measurement of the matter in the Universe can be made through the effect of gravitational lensing. Unfortunately, to estimate the neutrino mass from the small scale power spectrum also requires a precise measurement of the intrinsic amplitude of (matter) fluctuations. Although in principle the CMB can be used to make such a measurement, current data is not good enough, because of a degeneracy that exists between the amplitude of fluctuations and the reionization optical depth. In this talk I will explain this problem in some detail and present recent work to alleviate this issue using second order effects in the CMB. In the second half of my talk I will briefly address the claimed detection of the global 21cm signal.
