Search for new physics with gamma rays (status with the Fermi LAT and prospects for CTA)
Gabrijela Zaharijas, Univ. Nova Gorica
Event Type: Informal Astro Talk
Time: 1:35 PM - 2:05 PM
Location: 726 Broadway, 940, CCPP Seminar
Description: High energy gamma-rays are one of the most promising tools to constrain or reveal the nature of dark matter or signals of new physics. During ten years of the Fermi satellite mission, the data from its Large Area Telescope (LAT) were used to set competitive constraints on the WIMP dark matter models, as well as to axion-like particles. In this talk I will asses the status of the LAT search and discuss some ideas for future strategies. At the same time, the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is well into its prototyping phase (with the first telescope being inaugurated this month!). I will comment on the currently discussed observational and analysis strategies which will allow to probe complementary parameter space of >~TeV dark matter.
