Research:

My main research interest is in observations of extreme astronomical phenomena. I study H2O masers powered by Active Galactic Nucleii (AGN), which lie in the inner-most parsec of the accretion disk around the central supermassive blackhole. I will use them to calibrate the extra galactic distance scale and explore the relationship between the AGN and host galaxy. I also work on Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR) detected by the Pierre Auger Observatory. UHECRs have energies exceeding 10^20 eV and are several orders of magnitude more energetic than the particles accelerated by the Large Hadron Collider. I am interested in identifying the astronomical objects and physical phenomena resposible for the acceleration of these UHECRs.
