Gamma-ray burst afterglow broadband fitting based directly on hydrodynamics simulations

BOXFIT is a freely available numerical code for broadband afterglow light curve data fitting and creating light curves and spectra, based on compressed output from a set of 114 high-resolution 2D hydrodynamics simulations. The source code and data files for BOXFIT can be downloaded from this page.

Important notes for BOXFIT version 2:
  • Model fitting is still included, but deprecated.
  • All times are in seconds (i.e. cgs units), no longer in days. Fluxes are still in mJy.
  • Various settings in the parameter files have been renamed or added.
  • Boosted frame BOX files require boosted frame compiled BOXFIT.
  • Boosted frame BOX files do not cover late times, small ("medium") boost wind case excepted. Conversely lab frame simulations and small boost simulations do not properly cover very small angles (< 0.045 rad) at early times especially.
  • Synchrotron self-absorption is treated via a different algorithm by default.

Note that starting with the github versions, BOXfit makes use of shared memory on nodes, whereas previous versions would separately load the BOX files into memory for each core, even when on the same node.
