Have We Discovered and Can We Detect Electrically Charged Dark Matter?
Nadav Outmezguine, Tel Aviv University
Event Type: Informal HEP Talk
Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: 726 Broadway, 940, CCPP Seminar
Description: While cold collisionless particles offers a simple explanation to most gravitational evidence for dark matter (DM), we are still lacking an empirical hint on its true particle nature. Searches for theoretically motivated candidates such as WIMPs and supersymmetric DM candidates haven’t given but null results, pushing us to consider other directions. A simple model, in which DM particles carries a small electric charge has received renewed attention recently as putative explanation to the anomalous absorption 21-cm line reported by the EDGES collaboration. In this talk I will present some cosmological and astrophysical implication of such a charged DM, from its effect on 21-cm cosmology, to its galactic dynamics. The latter might also have a crucial implication on the possibility of discovering it in direct detection experiments.
