Abstract: In this talk, we will review recent developments of symmetry in quantum field theory from the study of topological operators. We will discuss aspects of collective coordinates of topological operators and their associated effective field theory. We analyze their decoupling or freezing on the world-volume of the operators in quantum field theory, which is necessary for their existence. We argue that the collective coordinates cannot be frozen or decoupled in gravity. This sets the stage to study charge violation in quantum gravity. Link to the Event Video |
