Title: What’s the wave packet size of neutrinos?
Abstract: The standard calculations of neutrino oscillation assume that the wave packets of neutrinos maintain coherence throughout their propagation. Traditionally, the effects of neutrino wave packet decoherence—specifically, the damping of oscillation probabilities—were considered unobservable in terrestrial experiments. However, recent claims suggest that if sterile neutrinos exist, these decoherence effects could be detectable in terrestrial settings. To test these claims, it is necessary to compute the wave packet size of neutrinos for a given source. In this talk, I will present our calculations of the wave packet size for neutrinos produced in accelerator-based experiments. We demonstrate that this value can be computed using a well-defined framework with precise input parameters, eliminating the need for approximations (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, 726 Broadway, 940, CCPP Seminar)
