Title: Connecting anyonic statistics and fusion rules: some physical and mathematical applications
Abstract: I will describe some new connections between the statistics of anyons in three spacetime dimensions and their fusion rules. By coupling TQFTs to non-topological QFTs, I will then give some physical and mathematical applications of these results. For example, I will give a physical re-derivation of certain known facts from group theory as well as giving a physical proof of a mathematical conjecture. I will also describe some consequences of these results for renormalization group flows in three dimensions. (2:30 PM - 3:45 PM, 726 Broadway, 940, CCPP Seminar)
